Day11 MON BL01M04 Module 5: Creating high impact executive Dashboard

What is a management dashboard?

It is a visual, easy-to-understand presentation that shows key performance indicators, or KPIs, that an organization defines to assess whether its operation is on track to achieve its business goals

What should be on an executive dashboard?

Dashboards consolidate and arrange numbers, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and sometimes performance scorecards on a single screen, tailored for C-level executives and managers.

What is the purpose of using a dashboard for data visualization?

Data dashboards provide an objective view of performance metrics and serve as an effective foundation for further dialogue. A dashboard is a business intelligence tool used to display data visualizations in a way that is immediately understood.

What makes an effective dashboard?

So, what makes a good dashboard? An effective data dashboard should be striking yet visually balanced, savvy yet straightforward, accessible, user-friendly, and tailored to your goals as well as your audience

1. Compare to the past.

2. Peer benchmarks.

3. Industry performance metrics.

4. Long-term value drivers.

5. Current initiatives.

What is difference between dashboard and report?

Reports tend to be broader and feature historic data. Because they must be delivered periodically, they represent a snapshot of a specific area or organization rather than its real-time situation. Dashboards, on the other hand, are built to visualize and organize data in real-time

What is a balanced scorecard and dashboard?

The Balanced Scorecard design process is up to down (with some exceptions). It starts with global business objectives and then moves down to KPIs level. The dashboard is more oriented on an operational level; as a result the process starts with the identification of relevant metrics and monitoring of their values

What is Balanced Scorecard example?

Therefore, an example of Balanced Scorecard description can be defined as follows: A tool for monitoring the strategic decisions taken by the company based on indicators previously established and that should permeate through at least four aspects – financial, customer, internal processes and learning & growth

What is the purpose of scorecard?

What Is a Balanced Scorecard? A balanced scorecard is a strategic management performance metric used to identify and improve various internal business functions and their resulting external outcomes. Balanced scorecards are used to measure and provide feedback to organizations.

Why is visual presentation important?

A great visual with a teeny tiny bit of text will often make your point better than a slide full of bullet points ever will. Visuals are magic because they help your audience to pay attention, understand, remember, and use the information you share with them. Visual presentations such as graphs, tables, charts, and diagrams bring together the verbal and visual to add another dimension to the information and create a totally new path towards understanding its meaning

Visual aids must be clear, concise and of a high quality. Use graphs and charts to present data. The audience should not be trying to read and listen at the same time - use visual aids to highlight your points. One message per visual aid, for example, on a slide there should only be one key point.

Types of Reporting

  1. Informative. Keep an informative presentation brief and to the point. ...

  2. Instructional. Your purpose in an instructional presentation is to give specific directions or orders. ...

  3. Arousing. Your purpose in an arousing presentation is to make people think about a certain problem or situation. ...

  4. Persuasive. ...

  5. Decision-making.

Marketing manager calls you and asks you to prepare a basic format of reporting to be done by him. How will you help MM create based on the data you have gathered over Digital campaign that you have recently done.

Teacher's note

the first and foremost of Reporting is to identify your key stakeholder and what are the data requirements ,both specified and perceived requirements. The manager is one who could identify the potential areas of improvement for business for all round success. Once you identify your stakeholders requirement, the next one is to identify the data sources and how are you collecting it? who controls the data? and what is the need to know data? this is critical as to find the inner workings of the system and then you go on to change/modify the system to ensure data flow is clean and clear. now this is only half work, rest is to make this data presentable, dependable and actionable.
